Power Yoga

I wandered into my first yoga class at the Power Yoga Company in 2019 as a short-term solution to help rehab a broken body from years of distance running, powerlifting and skiing. It was never in my plans to stick around. I knew absolutely nothing about yoga – but had preconceived ideas that I didn’t fit the mould. I was too male; My body was too tight; I wasn’t flexible enough – I struggled to sit cross-legged for more than a few seconds; And my ego really craved a more physical challenge.

But I was struck by the dynamic flow of the asana practice. It demanded far more strength than I had imagined, combined with balance, awareness, and flexibility. I would leave the studio feeling invigorated and elated, together with a deep sense of inner calm that remained long after class. I was mesmerised by some of the postures that I saw other students performing, that frankly seemed implausible. But with consistent practice, as the mind and body are opened, I am constantly amazed to discover we are capable of far more than we ever thought possible.

I quickly fell in love with the practice and decided that it was something that I wanted to do every day. I love that yoga presents us with challenges on the mat, to practice staying calm in difficult moments, that we can carry off the mat. I am a recent graduate from the Power Yoga Company’s Spring 2024 200hrs Yoga Teacher Training. I truly believe that yoga is for everybody. Through a challenging but inclusive physical practice, with conscious connection to the breath as a moving meditation – I hope that my classes leave you feeling empowered, light, energetic, calm and connected.
